The Knowledge of My Roots Keeps Me Grounded

Gives me the strength to handle my weaknesses

“Change your opinions, keep to your principles; change your leaves, keep intact your roots.” Victor Hugo.

This quote summarizes my life story so perfectly. I hope you’ll enjoy my perspective on this week’s prompt. Medium members have already contributed such fascinating posts that my ideas didn’t seem as exciting after reading them. My identity is rooted in my lineage, upbringing in India, and work experience in different countries.

Rooted in the creases of the earth profoundly impact the potentialities of our overall development. Roots provide solid foundations for intellectual growth in the swirls of change.

The torrential rains can dig out the tallest trees in a heartbeat, destroying their beauty within seconds. Catastrophic earthquakes flatten thousands of acres of vegetation in nanoseconds. Blistering blizzards can devour entire landscapes within minutes. Uprooting physical structures can be related to climate change or fate.

Taking care of the roots is essential-providing them with a nurturing environment becomes our lasting legacy. The more grounded we are, the higher we can rise. When we take care of the nourishment, soil, and adequate hydration, then the roots grow healthier and sturdier.

As a student of history, it has been an absolute pleasure to read, research, compile, and understand human connections. I found that those who created everlasting legacies always stay close to their roots.

If we don’t know ourselves, how can we survive the storms of life? If we don’t recognize our limitations, how can we navigate ourselves out of crises? If we don’t value what we have, how will we attract positive energies?

Roots determine what directions to take, what strategies to apply, and what to do when we reach to our desired destinations. We need proper alignments to grow under the sunshine; we learn how to adapt to new environments, and we can flourish according to our genes.

“It’s our roots that really give us our identity.” Rosalia.

Whether we look at the giant trees around us or watch a baby (one wooded stem) spread its roots into a gorgeous plant-the lesson remains the same. Roots are the cause of our evolution from tiny seeds into full-grown entities.
