How to embrace the unknown

Do you love to try new things? Or, do you stay in your comfort zone? If you travel often, you will encounter ways to enjoy the unknown.

My favorite part of travel is trying new restaurants and foods. It is an opportunity to broaden the scope of my life. I love to share that joy with my husband and son.

When we went to Chicago, our first stop was to try the deep dish pizza.

We went with my sister-in-law and ordered the most iconic one. I remember the exact moment when I took the photo of my son pondering the pizza. It made me smile, wondering what he would think.

I appreciate that he tried it, although he ended up liking the thinner crust pizza better. Trying something new always opens new doors.

Here are three ways you can try new things regularly.

Search New Restaurants

One of my hobbies is searching for new restaurants online. Once I find an interesting one, I put it on my list. Just about every weekend, we love to try a new place. It supports a local business, and we get to try delicious food.

I also find new food trucks or restaurants while out walking or driving. I write it down in the little notebook I have with me.

Sometimes my husband will send me a text about a new place he saw while on the way to work. Those are usually the best places.

We recently found a food truck that only serves tacos late at night. Those were some of the best tacos I had eaten outside of Mexico. You never know what you will find, have fun searching!

How can you find new places to try?

Try A Different Drink

A little while ago, we were at a Mexican restaurant that serves Oaxacan cuisine. Every day, they have a different fruit drink.

I asked the server what their fruit water was that day. She told me, but I had not heard of the fruit before. She did not know how to translate it, but I ordered it anyway.

It turned out to be a passionfruit drink. It was fabulous!

This experience taught me to always go for it. You never know what might be around the corner. Trust and faith accompany you always.

How can you trust yourself and go for something different?

Grow Something New

This spring, I ordered some plants and fruit trees from a catalog. I decided to make some unusual choices to see how it would turn out.

When the plants arrived, some were barely alive.

Yet, I planted them and gave them the best home possible. One of my choices was a geranium that wards off mosquitos.

It is now thriving in a pot in the garden window of my kitchen. When I water it, I smell the lovely scent of citronella.

I am excited to plant it outside next spring to enjoy next to our patio.

How can you grow something new in your window or on your balcony?

Have you tried some new foods or grown a new plant recently? What is something different you tried in the past few weeks? Share your story in the comments. I appreciate you!

Today I want to share an article by my friend, Shameem Anwar. He shares his wisdom regularly and writes wonderful, uplifting stories. I thank him for his great support of many writers. This piece is wonderful because it talks about change and growth. Thank you, Shameem, for your kindness!
