The Joy of Reading

Freewriting Friday

“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies, said Jojen. The man who never reads lives only one.” — George R.R. Martin

I’m a reader. I have always been and always will be. I read to find a great story. The best thing ever is to get enchanted by a book and forget everything else. As a reader, I’m a slow starter. But, as soon as I get over the first 100 pages, I am all in. I snuggle up in my chair with a book and coffee after the kids have left the building. I also read in bed at night. A quiet house is perfect for breathtaking adventures and beautiful moments.

Love story

A little love story is great in a book, right? I primarily read fantasy and dystopian novels. Magical or the end of it all, I love great worldbuilding, plot, and characters. Discover a new, exciting, and unbearable world. And — to get hooked, I need that love story.

“I might be in love with you.” He smiles a little. “I’m waiting until I’m sure to tell you, though.” — Veronica Roth

I have two types of readers in me. The dream-away romantic one that gets carries away, and the nerd. I love learning new things, so I am happy to read physics, economy, health, nutrition, etc. Technical? Yes, please.

Physical book, beyond a shadow of a doubt

I need to hold my book to get the right feeling, so a physical book is my thing. Besides, books are decorating my house. I like to photograph my books, and digital solutions don’t work for me.

My girls

I have two rather active girls. When they are playing loudly, I can’t find enough concentration to read. Luckily, my girls like to be read aloud too. Fantasy and dystopian books are their favorites as well. Tom Fletcher’s The Christmasaurus was the last book we read together. It’s a beautiful book and relevant for the season. When it comes to reading themselves, they like best the books where they have seen the film first. I’ve written a story about the books my girls like, 3 Captivating Book Series You Won’t Be Able To Stop Thinking About.

“I love books. I like that the moment you open one and sink into it you can escape from the world, into a story that’s way more interesting than yours will ever be.” — Elizabeth Scott

Reading gives me so much value. So here’s to all authors providing us with so much joy of reading.
