Summary

Jupiter Grant, a writer known for erotica and sensual poetry, was pleasantly surprised to have five of their recent articles selected for further distribution by Medium curators, marking a significant increase from their previous single curated piece.

Abstract

Jupiter Grant, who typically writes erotica and sensual poetry, has experienced a rare occurrence on Medium: the selection of five of their recent articles for further distribution. This is a notable achievement, considering only one of their previous works, an article on audiobook production, had been curated before. The curation process, which now requires authors to manually check their stories' stats for a "distributed" note, is a significant recognition for writers on the platform. Grant acknowledges that curation does not guarantee viral success or substantial earnings but views it as an ego boost and a validation of their work. The articles chosen cover diverse topics, from catchy novelty songs to the impact of conspiracy theories and the exploration of tarot through tanka poetry. Grant's elation at this recognition is evident, and they encourage other writers to check their stats for similar acknowledgment.

Opinions

  • Grant expresses that curation on Medium, while not a guaranteed path to financial success or virality, is a significant morale booster and a form of validation for a writer's work.
  • The author notes the change in Medium's notification process for curated articles, with writers now needing to proactively check their stories' stats pages.
  • Grant's previous experience with curation resulted in modest earnings, suggesting that curation's benefits may extend beyond immediate financial returns.
  • The articles selected for further distribution showcase Grant's versatility as a writer, touching on various subjects beyond their usual genre of erotica and sensual poetry.
  • Grant's reaction to the news of multiple curated articles is one of surprise and delight, highlighting the rarity and honor associated with the curation process on Medium.

The Joy of “Further Distribution”

Much to my surprise, five of my recent posts were chosen for further distribution by the curators this week

As someone who writes a lot of erotica and sensual poetry (which does not lend itself to curation), my experience of being chosen for further distribution by the Medium bods has been very limited. In fact, I have only ever had one previous post chosen for the illustrious curation before, and that was something on audiobook production that I wrote in my first week on Medium:

This article has, to date, earned me only $2.49 since Nov 2020, which doesn’t even come close to the earnings of some of my non-curated erotica and poetry content, so I know that curation is not an automatic golden ticket to the viral big-time. However, seeing that little note on your stats page — “Chosen for further distribution” — is, nevertheless, a huge jumpstart to the ego, and a soothing balm for any writer’s confidence.

So, imagine my elation when I happened to be on my stats page and found not one instance of having been one of the chosen ones this week, but — wait for it! — FIVE! As you might imagine, I just about fell off my chair. The champagne is on ice as we speak ;)

It’s difficult to know when one of your posts gets curated. Though I haven’t been on Medium for long, I understand that writers used to receive an email letting them know. Nowadays, you need to open up each story’s stats page and check for 1) the note just underneath your story title and 2) a note on your Views/Earnings/Member Reading Time graphs saying “distributed” and the date it was picked up.

Therefore, it is worth popping into your stats page for all your recent stories. While it is no guarantee that the article/s will go viral and earn you a mint, it’s more eyes on your work, and a little nod of approval for your work. And at the end of the day, those are two huge prizes in themselves.

In case you’re wondering, these are the five articles that were picked up by the Medium curators for further distribution this week:
