The Journey Day 22: Receive and Giving Go Hand in Hand

We often hear it is better to give than to receive. I learned to be mindful that the givers have to be in a position to receive as well. I love doing things for others, but learning how to receive was hard for me.

While I was in the hospital and in recovery, I had to allow people to do things for me such as cooking, helping me into bed, etc. It was a humbling experience to say the least. I had never really allowed myself to be on the receiving end because I did not want anyone to feel as if I owed him or her anything.

The struggle against self-reliance is no joke; we all need someone. God places us all in the position to give and receive. I have learned God will send us people we can love, trust, and depend on. Giving people exist in the most interesting places.

God places us all in the position to give and receive.

Reflective Question: Are you in position to receive and give? Write about any struggles and listen for God’s answer to assist you with the tools you need to overcome.

Reflective Scriptures: Acts 20:35, Psalm 121:1–2
