The ring appears to be the most practical item to buy. If anything tries to hurt you, at least you’ll be able to strike back. You buy the ring for a handful of coins and discover it is unexpectedly heavy when the merchant drops it into your outstretched palm.
“Here you are, warrior.” The Merchant says with a smile. “May you smite all who stand in your way!”
You place the iron ring on your finger and find that it is a perfect fit.
The strange runes gleam in the candlelight, but you don’t feel any different. The Merchant said the ring only works when you’re being attacked by someone who wishes you harm. You look around the tavern for some way to experiment with your newfound relic.
The tattooed Mercenary lounges by the bar, bored look on his face. A young woman catches his attention and the mercenary whistles at her lasciviously. The woman does her best to ignore him as she passes by and he continues to leer after her. The warrior catches you watching the whole exchange.
“What are you looking at?” He asks with a sneer. “Stupid peasant…”
The muscled mercenary seems like the perfect candidate for a little come-uppance. The iron ring gives you a confidence to confront the Mercenary that you didn’t have before.
A dark stranger sits in the corner of the tavern. The aura surrounding him sucks all the warmth and life from the alcove where he sits. When your eye catches his beguiling gaze, every hair on the back of your neck stands on end. Whatever this stranger’s business might be, it’s nothing good.
It might take someone with a magical artifact to rid the tavern of this malevolent presence.
You notice a blacksmith drinking peacefully by himself. The ring provides a magical failsafe, but perhaps its better if you learned how to defend yourself with an actual weapon. You could buy a weapon and ask the blacksmith to teach you some self defense basics so you’re not completely reliant on the yet-untested powers of your new trinket.
There are a few opportunities to test out your new magical item, but maybe it’s more sensible to avoid a fight.
What will you do?
- Challenge the Mercenary
- Confront the Dark Stranger
- Speak with the Blacksmith
