The Indescribable Sound of An AR-15

The sound was so loud it was unmistakable.
Growing up, I had seven older brothers with more guns than girlfriends. It is a gross understatement to say that gunfire is a familiar sound. These shots, however, sounded quite different.
Every shot echoed off the houses and trees.
I made sure my children were inside.
More shots.
It turns out a man was target practicing with an AR-15 in his front yard, two streets away — because he could.
The weapon was discharged 173 times, according to my count.
Each of those earth-shattering shots reminded me of what Robb Elementary students heard last in Uvalde.
I reported it to the police.
The shots stopped.
AR-15s are not the weapon of choice for home defenders, but it is the weapon of choice for mass murderers.
Gun violence in America is a tax-supported self-inflicted wound.
