The importance of coffee routine

Covid-19 has changed the way we live. Forever. Maybe not everything has gotten worse.

It’s not just a period, it will not ends in a short time and everyone of us has set up his own strategy to survive. Maybe we are not even aware of that but we, as human beings, are capable of incredible things and one is to adapt.

Our rhythms, our relations, the way we work, the way we connect to each other have completely changed and more or less we are good with that, we’ve accepted that.

Working from home and being lonely highlighted some aspects of our personality, make us feeling stronger or weaker, more productive or less confident.

Personally I added some routines that I previously can’t even think of due to “notimehurryuphurryup!” morning state.

Now that I own a cat I also have new moments of play with her and I can enjoy breakfast in a different way with some good coffee routine.

A coffee routine? WTF is that???

I always liked coffee but I decided to push that passion to the next level. I love trying different types of qualities, try different brand and taste different combos.

Before COVID-19 I used to take my Moka, some already-grounded coffee and brand name and his different coffee types were the only variables on that equation.

Slowly I started being curious about coffee beans, american coffee, different coffee types and all the different ways to make a coffee. I was clearly a newbie, but a passionate one.

American Coffee

So I started experimenting with basic american coffee world, completely new for me and — as I lately discovered — good for a huge mug during work hours :)

A pot, a manual coffee grinder, and I was set to go. Let me say: it’s not only a way to make coffee… it’s something zen: take your time to spill hot water, taste the perfume, move slowly. It’s something relaxing,

Manual grinder was a good starter point but the more I read, experienced, tasted, the more I wanted.

Evolving

After a few weeks search, comparison between dozen of coffee machines I finally decide for De’Longhi Dedica EC685 and electric grinder Graef CM702.

Routine

The whole thing changed: now at 11am I make cappuccino with a latte-art challenge (grinding 4), after lunch an espresso (grinding 3–4),during the day american coffee (grinding level 10).

I’m still trying different brands and alternatives, from Illy, to Pellini and some Starbucks options too; I discovered the pleasure to take my time, to taste a good coffee, to try different grinding levels, to put some passion in that.

Passion

At the end is all about what everyone likes, is passionate about and to build a routine around that. It’s about slow down for a moment and try to appreciate small things, like a cup of coffee.

And what’s your routine?

BTW: my final setup include: milk frother, tamper, pad, Knock Box
