The Iconic LEGO Set Every Music Fan Should Own

LEGO Makes The Rolling Stones Famous Again… Or is it the other way around?

The thing that’s hanging on my wall since last week is by far the coolest thing that I ever hung on a wall. If this won’t be a conversation starter, I don’t know what will. Honestly, I have yet to see a better synergy between music, pop-culture and creativity in the form of LEGO. This set, the LEGO Rolling Stones #31206, is pure perfection.

LEGO’s art line is interesting to say the least. But not necessarily in the best of ways. If you check out their dedicated art page, you’ll see some sets that are awe-inducing and jaw-dropping, while others really not that impressive. Thankfully, The Rolling Stones is part of the former category.

This is a brand-new set launched on the 1st of June 2022 in Europe. It doesn’t come cheap, but did art really ever come with a low-price tag? So, it’s somewhat fitting to have to spend 150 euros on a set that’s going to hang on the wall a few hours later. You do get 1998 pieces, so in terms of price to piece-count ratio, it’s not as bad as it sounds. It’s also bigger than you think, and that’s not just what he said… 😆 This really is a large set. It comes in a square(ish) box too, also on the large end. The built art piece ends up using a 57 cm (tall) and 47 cm (wide) space on your wall, so more than large enough for everyone to admire it on your next Zoom call.

A nice little easter-egg during the build is the incorporation of the number 60 as an entire phase. Technically, you could actually stop after this phase and just display it as such, as a nod to The Rolling Stones’ 60th anniversary. I would honestly consider this phase the most difficult one out of all of them. It’s not so much about complexity as all you’re doing is sticking 1×1 round studs of various colours onto a plate, but there are hundreds of them. It requires both patience and fingers that can take all that. Mine were certainly sore after.

I absolutely have to also mention how solid this build is. Genuinely, the most solid thing I ever built from LEGO bricks. This thing is 8 studs thick! Part of that is to help the 3D aspect show better for the tongue, but should you ever need to fight off a burglar with something, this piece of art will most likely knock them out cold. They won’t know what hit them!

Now, speaking of solid builds, if you’re worried how this thing will safely hang on the wall, you don’t need to. LEGO has special pieces for wall-mounting, and this set comes with not one but two of them. All you’ll have to do is provide two hanging points on your wall about 23 cm apart (do your own measurements) and voilà. The final build is not light, so do make sure those nails, screws, or hooks you have are secure enough in the wall.

I could spend hours and days trying to find a fault in LEGO’s Rolling Stones set, and I wouldn’t. Perfection is rare and overrated, but somehow LEGO still managed to pull off a moment of pure unadulterated perfection here. The best ever tribute to music and rock & roll in the form of plastic bricks.

Build stages

The LEGO Rolling Stones set gets built over 9 major stages. If I remember correctly in terms of numbered bags, there are 12 which would suggest 12 stages, but changes weren’t that obvious, so I photographed 8of them.
