Short Fiction Story

It was that time of year again when all the kids went crazy. The year I used my magic to turn my eggs into candy-filled eggs. It was weird how humans loved them. I didn’t even lay them, yet they expected them from me.

It’s been a tradition since my great grandfather provided this joy-filled time for the humans. We wouldn’t be around without the imagination of human children. They have special magic that creates a world beyond their own.

This morning I get to teach my child how to do this job. I wake up earlier than usual on this day. I like to leave my home and watch the sunrise. I take in the magic of excitement that the human children put into the world as they sleep. They are excited about what goodies they’ll find and how many they will get. Sometimes they make it a competition. It doesn’t always go well. It makes me chuckle.

I’ve trained my daughter as my dad prepared me for this journey. Today, she sits with me as we take in the magic. I can see the excitement in her eyes as she stares at the morning sky. It’s one of those days that nothing can ruin this day, no matter what happens.

I get to show her how to use her powers fully. She’s only been working on training that taught her how to control her powers. The morning where we use our powers to the full extent is the morning of the hunt.

This is the first morning of many for us. My daughter will finally see what it truly means to be the Easter Bunny.
