The Humming Birds And Moths Are Friends

They love the nectar of the flowers

Photo by John Duncan on Unsplash

The hummingbirds are hovering around, They sip the nectar of the flowers, The wings of the birds are agile, They make a hum woosh-like noise.

Do not mistake me for a hummingbird, I am a moth and will steal the nectar, I will make the same sound like you, I also have a long thin beak-like you.

I can see at night, my vision is strong, You are away in your nest before dark, Be careful of snakes and lizards around, We do not have danger from each other,

I am your friend.

In India, we do not have Humming Birds. We have a smaller version called Moths. They have the same functions as the Hummingbirds. They flap their wings and the sound resembles the Hummingbirds. They love nectar and they have long thin beaks. There is one distinction. They can see at night and Hummingbirds cannot. They have a common enemy that are lizards and snakes and squirrels that eat them. The Hummingbirds and Moths live in harmony with each other and they both have a preference for sucking nectar from flowers.

This poem is in response to R. Rangan PhD to write something on Hummingbirds.
