The Human Touch in the World of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

My perspective of an AI world

We are all challenged by the Artificial Intelligence (AI) reality, and it seems we cannot escape but embrace technological changes.

The world will move on with new technologies, and we will often interact with a computer equipped with artificial intelligence now and into the future.

However, as a human, we still need each other because humans need that human touch that surpasses the use of any technology.

Maybe one day, AI will become so effective that we may prefer interacting with a machine or robot more than a human being.

I do not rule out such a possibility, and I like to share my perspective on what I perceive are our needs.

The human touch is a phrase that refers to the physical and emotional connection between people. It encompasses using hands, arms, or other body parts to express care, support, empathy, and intimacy.

Whenever we share our stories, we like someone to respond to us and give us feedback. I’m not fond of a machine talking to me, which sounds superficial, unreal, and probably detached.

The human touch holds great significance in various aspects of life:

Physical Connection:

Touch is one of our primary senses and plays a vital role in human connection. Physical contact, such as hugs, handshakes, or holding hands, can create a sense of closeness, comfort, and bonding between individuals.

No matter how clever Artificial Intelligence is, I will still need a human to provide the physical connection. I’m sure you will agree with me.

Emotional Expression:

The human touch is a powerful form of nonverbal communication that can convey a wide range of emotions. A gentle touch on the shoulder can express sympathy, a warm hug can bring love and affection, and holding someone’s hand can provide reassurance and support during challenging times.

It goes beyond getting the best answers from a machine. AI will still be there to keep us find solutions to our problems but to get an emotional response; we still would need to communicate with a human.

Understanding of human relationships:

When we interact, we communicate our feelings and thoughts and seek to understand why we behave rationally or irrationally. Solving human-to-human problems is a complex matrix of feelings, emotions, tactful words, and love.

We cannot replace that with mere answers and recommendations. Sometimes, we take time not just to understand why people behave strangely but also to understand our motivation.

In conclusion

I believe man will rule artificial intelligence and not the reverse. It may be tragic if, one day, our computer can communicate better than someone close to us. To prevent that, we must be mindful of why we need a human touch to every fabric of our being.

Hopefully, we do not get manipulated by artificial intelligence to the extent that we lose our human touch!
