Summary

The text is a personal reflection on the poet's connection to the hospital where they were born, evoking nostalgia and a sense of origin every time they pass by it.

Abstract

The author shares a free verse poem that captures the deep emotional bond they have with the Indian railway hospital where they were born. The hospital, described as a fort-like red brick building with a banyan tree overhead, remains a significant landmark in their life. Despite moving away, the sight of the hospital from a passing train evokes a mix of feelings that are difficult to articulate. The red bricks of the hospital boundary trigger memories of their birth and the joy it brought to their family. Each encounter with the hospital, whether from a distance or in passing, stirs a sense of nostalgia and a longing to revisit the place where their life began. The poem concludes with gratitude towards individuals who have supported the poet's writing.

The hospital where i was born!

a free verse poem

i was born, in an indian railway hospital, a red brick building, fort-like, a banyan tree overhead! we moved to a different place, but the hospital stayed visible, from the train window. whenever the train passed, a feeling,i cannot express, swallowed me, fully.

when my eyes met the red bricks, of the hospital boundary, i became overwhelmed, overwhelmed with emotions, so many, this, this was the pathway, my pathway, to this beautiful earth, my journey started here, in an operation room, where i cried for the first time, the joy of my parents, grandparents, isn't it surreal?

whenever i cross it, from the chugging train, every single time, a smile appears on my lips, a lump in my throat, mom points and says, there's the room, just behind the wall, and, my eyeballs move towards that, perhaps, hoping to see it. maybe, someday,i will get down, get down and go inside, to the room, which saw the birth of life, which sheltered me for the first time!

Thanks to Dr Mehmet Yildiz for starting this wonderful publication, Salam Khan and Dipti Pande for sheltering a lot of my poems, here!
