The Hole of Despair

Natural occurrences happen for a reason.

I am a freshman in college.

Transitioning from comfortable living to a school-ridden life has taken a toll on me.

It put me in a hole of despair.

As human beings, we must try our hardest to stay on the surface.

Never fall in.

Starting up at college was easy for me.

I maintained good grades for the majority of the semester.

However, I had so much free time to the point where I was doing only schoolwork and occasionally going to the gym.

Life like this was dull.

Wake up, go to class, do schoolwork, repeat.

I needed a break.

I started skipping out on school and not doing any schoolwork for three weeks.

With that being said, my grades dropped drastically.

At this point, I have officially fallen into the hole of despair.

No hope, no joy, no stimulation.

However, the concept of the golden mean is always in the back of my head.

The concept of the golden mean is the desirable middle between two extremes.

Therefore, with happiness comes sadness, and with sadness comes happiness.

I knew in the back of my head that my life would average out soon enough.

So, I started giving myself stimulation outside of schoolwork to hopefully maintain stability.

I started to go to the gym every day and played ultimate frisbee with my friends every week.

Getting the stimulation I needed, I started to go back to my classes and started catching up on my grades.

I was successfully crawling out of this deep hole that I had dug myself.

Towards the end of the semester, I ended up with a 3.3 GPA, which isn’t too bad.

However, I had gone through so much stress while catching up with life.

I try my hardest not to regret my actions, but I wish I had tried from the beginning.

As human beings, we need to try our hardest to give ourselves stimulation.

We are allowed to get distracted from time to time.

Getting tunnel-visioned through the depths of college, let alone life, can be challenging to overcome.
