The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store
What a Treat!

So, I’m probably a bit late to the party on this, but I do a good bit of reading and just got around to this one. James McBride’s story is full of wit and wonder; sarcasm and sacrifice. My cynical side considered being skeptical about the storyline, until I recognized the humanity brimming throughout it.
Humanity is a choice. Friendship and community is a choice. Whenever we as human beings make such a choice and stick with it in fidelity, beautiful things bloom.

Don’t want to spoil the story if you haven’t read it. I’ll not be surprised if Hollywood doesn’t come calling soon to option this into a movie. The plausibility and necessity of telling a story of a community of various types of Jews and black folk living in 1920’s-30’s Pennsylvania is riveting. I fell in love with most of the characters and the ones I didn’t like much were written to make it plain why I shouldn’t like them. You are almost introduced to the moment they lost their humanity. Intriguing to say the least.
Do yourself a favor and go read it so you’ll be ready to critique the Hollywood version when it comes out. I for one, want to see and hear a little more from a few of these wonderful characters.
