I just checked my horoscope for this week — it’s spot on. My eccentric aunt, through marriage, is to blame for introducing me to Astrology when I was thirteen. Hey, it was the 70s. I became fascinated by the science and her odd behavior.

The woman wouldn’t leave the house without checking it — if there were a slight hint of foreboding, she called off from work and stayed in the house all day. It proved especially convenient when the planets misaligned, coinciding with her hangover.

Some people think horoscopes are all woo-woo when zodiac signs are constellations in the sky — if one never takes the time to delve deeper into the science behind it, one’s understanding will remain superficial. Trust, it’s so much deeper than checking your sign based on your birth month.

Hold on, I’m not about to go into a dissertation on Astrology — I don’t have the time or inclination.

If anyone is interested, there’s a complete library on the subject starting at the earth’s inception. Incidentally, Earth is a 4.4-billion-year-old Virgo, a perfectionist bitch. Just kidding, but it might clear a few things up for us all.

I was so inspired by my horoscope today, that I feel compelled to share it because I think its relevance is uncanny. Not only for my birth sign but for every person alive regardless of birthdate, time, and location of the planets when the universe decided it was your day to rock the world — no matter your birth sign. Here’s what Rob Brezsny said about Taurus this week.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20): For “those who escape hell,” wrote Charles Bukowski, “nothing much bothers them after that.” Believe it or not, Taurus, I think that in the coming weeks, you can *permanently* escape your own personal version of hell — and never, ever have to return. I offer you my congratulations in advance. One strategy that will be useful in your escape is this idea from Bukowski:

“Stop insisting on clearing your head — clear your f*cking heart instead.”

I don’t know about anyone else, but for me, anything weighing heavily on my heart is weighing as heavily in my head. I firmly believe this is where it all begins. Our heartache drives our thoughts. The pain rises, infiltrates our brain to make us feel less capable, fearful, confused, not good or courageous enough to go full steam ahead after our dreams.

Does it not make sense we should clear our hearts to clear our heads?

Our feelings color our thoughts — our thoughts create our reality. Hence the danger. If we don’t clear our hearts first — any lingering pain or untruth we’ve been telling ourselves will stick like Gorilla glue. Because we think something doesn’t mean it’s true.

My grandmother used to say, “the mind will play tricks on you.”

I have been in a quandary for the last week about writing. I’m not sure in what direction I should go. I’m not a niche writer, but I’m feeling the need to expand my horizons by whittling down exactly what inspires me the most.

I write whatever is on my heart, right NOW. See? I’ve been struggling to clear my heart, so my mind will follow. But, the more I pinpoint my heart’s desire, I’m starting to get a clearer picture of what that entails.

It’s difficult knowing there’s some place you’re supposed to go, but you don’t know how to get there. I agree with my horoscope this week; a good place to start is the heart. From articles I’ve been reading lately, we could all use a good heart clearing.

This is weird, but as I was writing, I thought about a heart map, not knowing it’s an actual thing. It looks like a great tool to clear some of those roadblocks so we can get out of our own way.

We should excavate our hearts — mine not only for gold, but pain, angst, desire, wishes, dreams, and whatever else needs clearing.

We have the power to dig ourselves out of any hole.
