The Haunted house

To Simla with love

My family decided that we should go on holiday to Simla. The travel agent showed us pictures of some beautiful cottages. I singled out one picture and said “this is it! I will stay here.”

The travel agent said “Mam there are many stories of haunted houses in Simla. The one you have selected is also known for housing a ghost so please, please rethink.”

I was not going to rethink. I had made up my mind and there could be no other choice.

We all packed meticulously as we were told that it was cold there and so we needed to pack our woolens.

In the early morning the next day, we had our car ready, with petrol filled in and the tyres pressure checked. We had packed sufficient snacks to have a cheerful ride.

We were all thrilled and we sang and ate our snacks all the way through. As we approached the beautiful cottage we felt a sense of exhilaration at the choice of the cottage and there was a sigh of relief that we had reached in good time when there was still daylight.

My husband and my three sons were delighted with the place. They complimented me on my choice of the place.

At night, everything went on well and soon everybody was sleeping soundly.

At 3 AM I heard heavy footwear coming down from the stairs from the attic to the ground floor.

Creek creek, the staircase made a sound, and I saw a person going out of the cottage.

Everyone else was sleeping.

I said, “Who is it?” I don’t know if the words actually came out.

It all went quiet and no one spoke.

The next day I told everyone, we are shifting out and staying in a hotel as the house was haunted! No one believed me and said that it was a figment of my imagination. They would not budge! They loved the place.

The next night, everyone had a bonfire, the boys invited some friends they had in Simla and we had dinner together.

After much merriment, all was quiet and we went to sleep.

Again at 3.30 AM, I heard heavy feet and the staircase creaking under the heavy feet.

This time he was carrying a bag on his arm. He revealed half of his face. He was wearing a white shirt and I could see his white beard like a hermit.

I called out………..

No words came……………

My son too woke up and probably saw the man.

Then my husband moved under his sheet ashen and in awe!

He too saw the ghost….

The ghost did nothing to us. Just went away peacefully.

The house was definitely haunted……

We left the next morning, but we all saw one more surprising thing. Someone had cleaned the dressing table and put the things in order.

This was eerie…….

It was a friendly ghost. Did not do any harm.

We had a great holiday. We said goodbye to the house and to the ghost!

What were my learnings?

I lived in a haunted house, but ghosts can be friendly too.

Leave the supernaturals to themselves and they do no harm.

Listen to advice from people when you plan for a holiday.

Adventurous decisions can be scary too.

Lucky for us that the ghost was friendly.

We may have faced problems that were not necessary.
