The website content emphasizes the importance of thorough research in copywriting, prioritizing understanding the product and customer needs over competitor analysis, and suggests using AI copywriting tools to enhance the writing process.

Abstract

The article discusses the challenges copywriters face, particularly the difficulty of conducting effective research. It argues that many copywriters mistakenly prioritize competitor research, leading to a failure to connect with their audience's true needs. The correct approach, as suggested, involves a three-step research process: first, gaining a deep understanding of the product; second, identifying customer problems; and third, analyzing the market, including competitors. This method ensures that the copy addresses the audience's pain points and offers unique value. The article also introduces AI copywriting tools as valuable assets for streamlining content creation and improving the quality of written copy.

The hardest part of writing copy…

Is copywriting easy? What is the hardest part of writing?

Many beginners and some pro copywriters struggle with one thing…

And this is what I believe to be the hardest thing to get in copy.

Because you think you’ve gotten it right…

You get down to writing your copy…

Then… “BAM!”

Your copy has failed.

Nobody is clicking the add-to-cart button or clicking that link…

So you just sit there with your hands under your chin…

And your eyes welling up with hot tears.

You may be wondering…

“What could be so difficult that could ruin the entire copy?”

It’s no other thing than research.

Many copywriters believe they’ve done the research work required only to come up with terrible big ideas, and benefits that the audience don’t even relate to.

So what’s wrong?

How do you mess up the research process?

How could you get it all wrong?

Let me tell you what many copywriters do for research….

Immediately you get a product to write for…

You run to competitor websites to see what those other businesses are doing/saying…

Before you then head to Amazon or Reddit where the audience hangs out.

This doesn’t sound bad, right?

But here’s where the problem is…

When the first place you do your research is on the competitor’s websites…

Most of the actions you take after that will be based on what the competitors are doing…

Not what your customers need.

So in your bid to outshine the competitors, you miss the mark and fail to get anything right.

The first thing you’re supposed to do for research…

Is understand the product or service you’re writing for.

You don’t need to study the competitors for this.

See how everything about the product works and become an expert at it.

Then head over to your online sites (and offline if possible) to meet up with customers and see the problems they face.

Since you already understand the product and now the prospect’s problems, getting your big idea/ marketing angle will be easier…

Then try to come up with an angle different from your competitors even before you understand the product.

The customers are always more important than the competitors.

So, try taking your research in this direction:

1. Product research

2. Customer research

3. Market research (which includes competitors’ research).

You want your brain in the right place when you write.

And you want to ensure that you’re writing for the customers and not the competitors.

Take help from technology for writing.

AI copywriting is essentially computer-generated writing created using natural language processing tools.

First, you decide what you want to write about and the type of content you need. This could be anything from a blog post to a short ad.
