The Habit That’ll Make You 7X as Successful (in 2 months)

Why don’t more people do this?

And not just successful — It’ll make you happier and more satisfied with life, and it only takes a fraction of your time.

Sounds too good to be true, right? I thought so too, but hang in there.

Everybody has their perspective on what ‘success’ means. To some, it is millions of dollars, to others it is just making enough to live comfortably. Yet others want happiness, and the vague definition it comes with.

The reality is, that lots of people aren’t at that level of success. Some of us aren’t even trying, and others want more no matter what.

The world we live in

If you look around you right now, you’ll probably see technology. Heck, you’re reading this article through a piece of tech.

People are addicted to their screens. We’re angry, annoyed and frustrated almost 70% of the time.

What percentage of today (or yesterday) did you feel genuinely happy?

The news is full of negativity. A random TikTok of somebody complaining about not getting Taylor Swift tickets is making us mad. Sometimes, I feel like chucking my phone out the window.

But… it is the reality of the world we live in.

And there’s a very good chance it is hindering our productivity, happiness and success. It doesn’t have to be that way.

The simple habit

I know that was an awfully long introduction, so I get straight to the point before you click out.

Look at life in a 30% better light than you are right now.

Just 30%. You don’t need to be optimistic to the point of naivety and ignorance. A small percentage, things like:

  • Saying hello to someone on the street
  • Focusing on what you can control
  • Smiling

It’s the kind of thing that nobody will praise you for, or give you millions of dollars as a reward. That’s probably why so few people nowadays do this. Everybody wants to do something for personal gain.

But the world won’t operate if everybody is like that. We aren’t venal thugs who do things just to survive. People can be kind.

The small things you do that show your kindness and optimism travel by word of mouth.

Over time, it will be something good that people remember you for. That translates into work life and personal life. People will be more willing to work with and be friends with you.

A principle

I try to go by this: Leave the world a better place than you found it. Cliche, yes. But it is a good principle to go by.

At the back of my mind, I have had this fear of being average. I wanted to stand out… to do something extraordinary that made my life meaningful and had an impact on other lives too.

Too many people are just there, existing.

Nobody would care if you disappeared tomorrow. The impact we all have is so tiny — and our sphere of influence is negligible.

That’s most people, and at the end of the day, only 50% will be above average.

But we can all do our part to extend our sphere of influence. We don’t need to be Elon Musk for our lives to be meaningful. And we can achieve it by being a fraction more optimistic.

Nobody will pay you to wipe down the counter because it’s a little dirty. But your act will impact people, even if they don’t credit you.

Finally,

I know we can’t all be happy and positive 24 hours a day.

But we can find the good in all situations, be they failures or successes. There is an opportunity for connection, growth, money and learning in basically everything we do.

If all 8 billion people in the world just took a 30% more positive attitude and were willing to leave a place better than they found it, where would we be now? It’s the minuscule actions that add up.

A crowd is made up of individuals. Don’t say you don’t matter.

If you choose to go down the other route, you may find negativity, your friends drifting away, and life will be 7 times harder to get through. You’ll be the opposite of happy and successful.

Make your choice.
