The Group of Nine

And the circle of rocks

The early morning sun, not far above the horizon, left long shadows across the trail. The air was filled with bird and insect sounds as well as the crunch of leaves underfoot. The nine men and women remained speechless and vigilant.

Suddenly they huddled together and did not move so as to make no noise at all. They looked out in all directions hoping to catch a glimpse of what they were searching for. After a while with no sightings they began moving again only to stop again further along on the path.

They seemed to be one unit for they stopped and started simultaneously without anyone giving a command. Continuing on the trail this way all morning long they never saw what they were looking for and stopped for lunch in a clearing alongside a stream.

Remaining positive, no disappointment was expressed by anyone in the group. They knew that they needed to keep their collective energy as high as they could in order to attract what they were looking for. They needed to keep their minds free of unnecessary thought in order to feel the energies of the land. After several days of searching for it they did not want to give up lest it be just a little further ahead.

The group of nine consisted of three groups of three. One sub-group consisted of a woman, her husband and their teenage daughter. Another consisted of a single mother and her two grown sons and the third one was made up of an adult sister, her brother and a close female friend. There were five females and four males. They had all met and gotten together over the previous year and in that time they all had dreams revealing what they were looking for. They were convinced that together, with their energy dynamic, they could find it in the awake state. It was what drew them together more than anything else.

In that clearing they ate bread, cheese and fruit and drank from the stream while also filling their canteens. After lunch they sat in a circle, all facing inward, to meditate together. With their eyes closed, they meditated on the energy of the circle and the group.

Almost simultaneously, they opened their eyes. That is when the single mom pointed to the east of the circle. Everyone slowly and quietly turned their heads to look.

It was the white doe.

She was staring intently at the nine people. It was the deer that had appeared in everyone’s dreams. Tears were quickly pouring out of the eyes of every group member. They had found her!

No more than fifteen meters away from the circle, the white doe lowered its head to chomp on some grass. Raising its head, it chewed on the grass while continuing to stare at the group of nine. Finally done chewing, the all-white deer turned to the side and walked over to the stream where it drank water then walked through the stream to the other side. Without turning back to look at the people it wandered off into the forest on the other side of the stream.

After the white doe was out of sight the nine people got to their feet and fell into a large group hug, crying and wailing with joy. They spent much of the afternoon in that clearing and at one point they dispersed, each member looking for a rock that conveyed strong energy when they held it in their hands.

With a perfect rock found, each member brought their rock back to the very spot where the white doe had been standing. With one rock from each group member, they built a little circle of nine rocks where the white doe had stood.

The group of nine never saw the white doe again but they returned to the circle of rocks many, many times.
