Summary

The website content describes a significant fictional event where a machine capable of time travel is tested in front of leading scientists and dignitaries, with the discovery potentially solving all of humanity's problems.

Abstract

The narrative centers around a monumental discovery in the realm of time travel, which is heralded as a solution to all of mankind's issues. This discovery leads to the first human trial of a time travel machine, observed by a gathering of top scientists and world dignitaries. The trial, however, appears uneventful, leading to an anticlimactic reaction from the scientist overseeing the experiment. The story is presented as a drabble, a form of flash fiction, and is part of the "11 Random Word Drabble Challenge" by Nancy Oglesby, featured in the "Fiction Shorts" section on Medium. The author, Eva MacInnes, invites readers to engage with her work, offering the opportunity to follow her writing and subscribe to her publications.

Opinions

  • The author implies that the discovery of time travel is of immense importance, potentially capable of correcting all of life's challenges.
  • The understated reaction of the scientist to the successful but visually underwhelming trial suggests a contrast between the expected spectacle and the reality of scientific progress.
  • The collective anticipation and subsequent indifference of the audience to the event highlight the potential disconnect between the significance of a scientific milestone and the public's perception of it.
  • The inclusion of a daily drabble prompt and a challenge for readers to write their own stories indicates the author's interest in community engagement and creative collaboration.
  • The author's self-introduction as a writer, artist, and freelance editor, along with an invitation to support her work, suggests a personal investment in her craft and a desire to connect with her audience.

The Greatest Discovery in History

The solution to all of mankind's problems had been found…

The random word of the day is SCIENTIST.

It was the discovery of the century, perhaps even the millennia. The solution to life as we know it. With it, we could right all the wrongs.

The top scientists and most important dignitaries from around the world gathered to witness the machine’s first human trials. This was the true test of time travel.

They stood together behind a thick glass window and watched the first human traveler step into the box. One scientist hit a big red button and poof, the traveler was gone.

The scientist muttered under her breath, “Well, that was uneventful.”

And they all meandered away.
