The Great Return To A Magnificent Circadian Rhythm That Will Make You Fly Like Superman!
Edison might have disrupted your sleep pattern or shifted your circadian rhythm, but that’s a long time ago, and that’s not the only thing…

At the very beginning of his experiments with the incandescent lamp, in 1879, he said:
“We are striking it big in the electric light, better than my vivid imagination first conceived.”
-Thomas Edison-
You can blame Edison all you want, but then what?
We all know the industrial revolution’s effect on disturbing our natural human physiology.
But I think we’ve stood still for a long time as well.
What’s more relevant today is, what will you do about it?
This is a question that we could all ask ourselves.
Not many tried to find the side effects that the influence of light brought in the early twentieth century. Because most were unaware that there was a harmful side in terms of health linked to the whole evolution.
Around 2003, sleep seemed to be a natural periodic suspension of consciousness where processes of rest and restoration occur.
Cognitive, reparative, and regenerative functions appear to be essential for maintaining homeostasis. And as a result in overall health.
They could not have known this hundred years earlier…
This could have been the first real step that brought more awareness to the general public.
Actually, it was not so long ago. The increased risk of heart disease and diabetes might also be an extra-alarm signal.
When you are sleep deprived, it can leave you with the diminished cognitive capacity of someone legally drunk. It enables the formation of false memories. It leads to lower levels of emotional intelligence, confidence, and self-esteem:
- Sleep duration as a risk factor for the development of type 2 diabetes — PubMed (nih.gov)
- Moderate sleep deprivation produces impairments in cognitive and motor performance equivalent to legally prescribed levels of alcohol intoxication | Occupational & Environmental Medicine (bmj.com)
- Sleep Loss Produces False Memories
- Sleep deprivation reduces perceived emotional intelligence and constructive thinking skills — ScienceDirect
A disrupted clock is the mother of all maladies and conversely in most chronic diseases.

Had enough?
Evening lights are bad, yeah…
But there is more than light pollution. Longer working hours are not good...
In the past hundred years, we had:
- Wars
- Window seals
- Indoor heating
- House isolation
- Technological revolution
- The rise of the gaming industry
- …
When it boils down to industries, it isn’t that long ago that changes were made.
In 2010, Martin Moore-Ede was doing a job that was not quite challenged after the work of Edison.
Introducing: “The fatigue management system.”
In the fatigue management system, Martin often gets a lot of front wind because employers often can’t accept that letting workers sleep while on the clock can be productive in the end.
Martin used his effective tool, which is the all-mighty motivator:
“Money”
Martin discovered that, for instance, a particular railroad company was paying out roughly some $32,000 or 27,500 Euro in accident cost per every million miles or 1.6 million km its equipment and workers were traveling. Restricting long work shifts was the key to increasing return on investment.
So, the next time you ask for a raise and your employer tells you that money doesn’t motivate, think back; you could use the latter as an argument since it did motivate them to undertake certain steps.
But not only that, you don’t need to be a wizard to tell that it also saves lives.
In 2010 Giant international oil companies agreed to apply a fatigue management system. This is also the case in the offshore renewable industry where I am currently located.
Fatigue management is often a requirement of clients these days, and knowing what you know now; I hope more and more people understand the importance of this and help spread the word around so that what you know now, I hope more and more people understand the importance of this and help to spread the word around so that also the smaller companies underline this.
A decade ago, I was one of the first who would laugh when you came up with this fatigue management thing… Once you become more aware, suddenly it is more interesting than ever.
Well-synchronized circadian rhythms boost your immune system and enable you to function in your best possible state of being. It makes you resilient against diseases and sets you up to perform sharp mentally.
If you would want to read more about your circadian rhythms:
Throughout history, many things happened that perhaps are not great for your overall health. Learning to know how to turn the tide can form an interesting path toward the future.
Martin Moor-ede is just one example.
“Look at sleep in a polyphasic way. To reap optimal rewards. Extra mental and physical energy.”
-Nick Littlehales-
Someone who I consider one of many contributors to this is the sleep sports coach “Nick littlehales,” who was also already busy with sleep and rest improvements to optimize athletes. Nick contributes from back in the nineties to the great achievements of clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United, players like Ryan Giggs, Thiery Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo, and cyclists like Sir Bradley Wiggins…
Athletes are the astronauts of improved rhythmic approaches.
Look at them to anticipate healthier approaches for yourself.
Polyphasic sleep approaches, Outside activities, and CRPs (Controlled Rest Periods) are the future of maintaining a great recovery system and inducing an optimal circadian rhythm.
Correct timing of Light and temperature are interesting elements that enable your body to follow a natural cycle. Mix that with what athletes do, and fly like superman!
Absorb, Read, Write, Sleep, Exercise, Thrive!
Thanks for reading this post! I hope you can benefit from certain elements and find a way to induce a great rhythm!
