The Great Relay Race
Don’t drop the baton

As my friend, Frank Sullivan said, “Life is like a relay race. We keep our eyes on the runner with the baton.”
Someone passes it to us. We run with it, then pass it to someone else who runs with it, and before we collapse, we watch him, and so does the crowd. We may think of the one who passed it to us and the one who will receive it from the one we passed it to. But we tend to keep our eyes on the one who’s running with it.
We may never know who wins the race, and perhaps we don’t need to know. What we need to do is to make sure we don’t drop the baton.
