A Great Picnic Challenge Update

Success in March but unsure about April

After yesterday’s snowstorm I wasn’t sure if I would meet the goal for March in the Great Global Picnic Challenge. For those unfamiliar with this worldwide event, it is a challenge to increase the amount of picnics humans go on throughout the world. For those adventurous souls who undertake the challenge the rule is that you go on one picnic your first month of the challenge and then double the amount with each subsequent month.

I signed on to the challenge back at the beginning of the year. I went on one picnic in January and then two in February. To keep up with the challenge I need to have four picnics in March. Well, I’ve only had three so far and today is the last day of the month so I HAVE TO go on a picnic today.

Luckily, most all of the snow from yesterday’s snowstorm has melted and the official weather forecast calls for clear, sunny skies all day today. Hallelujah!

I’ve decided on the menu: A roast beef and Swiss cheese on rye sandwich, cole slaw and organic, non-GMO sweet potato chips. For dessert: A twix bar. (I opted for the non-vegan picnic challenge.)

I was hoping to take my picnic to the park south of town but I heard that it is still underwater from all the recent flooding so I still have to pick a new location. The flooded park would be great if I owned a row boat — I’ve always wanted to have a picnic on a boat — but sadly I am boat-less. I’m going to have to picnic in a different park.

I sure hope we have some great weather in April because to keep up with my picnic pledge I will have to go on eight picnics. I will do my best. May will surely be a challenge as I will need to go on sixteen picnics. And thirty-two in June! Hopefully, I will still be unemployed by then so I have the time for all those picnics.

July? Sixty-four picnics? Seriously? By then I might have to be homeless and be eating all my meals out-of-doors. Who made up these rules anyway?

But I’m not giving up! I’m not a quitter — usually. I’m going to try to get as far as I can into this noble challenge. After all, it’s an important cause.

And, of course, I will be reporting on my progress to all my friends here on Medium. Good luck to everyone else who has taken the challenge.
