The Government is Ruling with the Articles of the Confederacy

The central government is behaving as the states did in the 1780s; This government continues to spend money we don’t have and is creating “imprudent laws,” just like the states did back then.

Source, Author made chart

The Tuesday, October 5, Real Clear Politics article by Charles Lipson, “What’s at Stake in the Budget Negotiations?”, rang loud bells with me about what this “powerful-self-serving” government is doing to us, the people. We have this happened in our history, and we are about to repeat it, except last time it was the States that did it.

Back in the 1780s, right after the revolutionary war, we were ruled by a weak central government and strong state governments. Per the “Articles of Confederation,” most of the power was with the 13 colonies. So, before the Constitution, the country was ruled by strong State Governments and State Constitutions.

It just so happens that at that time the states employed a pure form of “Majority Rule;” in addition, they had weak Executives and strong Legislature, with short terms of service. The Revolutionary War had left us broke with a frail economy and many debtors. At the time, this made sense — The Revolutionary War had been fought to reject central despotism. This form of government was a reaction to the British Crown depriving its citizens and colonies of their right to self-government. So, it made sense to adopt the polar opposite of that.

So, we have 13 States, with weak Executives + Strong Legislatures + Add to this equation “Short” Legislative Terms. That equals an extremely sensitive-to-opinion Legislature. Legislatures became reactive to EVERY change in public opinion. One of the consequences of this type of government was the enactment of “imprudent Laws.” Mob rule, is not sensitive to individual rights. One of the imprudent laws was the “Paper Money Laws,” which gave the debtors the right to use notes “worth” what they wished (basically).

These were paper money schemes, enacted to relieve short-term pressure that eventually led to ruin. Proving that we can’t print our way out of economic trouble. It is not just bad economics, it allowed the debtors’ majority to print their way out of, and pay their debts in worthless currency. This was an injustice, not only to the creditors but also to the minorities that had not incurred that debt and were dragged into ruin. Governments that allow the majority to vote themselves for the wealth of the minority are NOT a government that secures the “equal natural rights of its citizens.” There were other laws that allow abuse by the majority of the minority, for example, the disenfranchisement of religious minorities that were seen in states like Pennsylvania that disenfranchised Quakers — a clear violation of the rights of the minority. The framers of the Constitution saw these things happening and wrote about these problems with an increasing sense of alarm, one of them being James Madison. The Constitution was written in many ways because of these observations.

Today, the Federal Government is mimicking similar things by just printing exorbitant amounts of money. This is a way to TAX THE PEOPLE by making our money worth less and less. The Federal Government is at its peak of power, stepping over the states at will. Printing money at a nauseating pace. Paper money IS OUR REPUTATION. The world currency is the Dollar.

Sound familiar? Did everybody get their Biden check? Today, we have a feeble Executive and a very vociferous and proactive left-leaning-Federal-Legislature, plus we have a considerable imbalance between the Federal Government and the States, the States are weak. Think, how is it that Congress was allowed to tie up Trump in knots all of his 4-year term? Further, we have the Republicans who continue to whitewash their constituency with one battle cry — “Look at what the left is doing, help us! Send Money!” Without even giving a blink of thought about doing a radical change to their PLAN for the future.

We need BASIC education for knowledge, not indoctrination

We need a process that unifies the nation, à la Universal Conscription, We need a BALANCED government; we need to do away with the Civil Servant Army (2.2 Million) that lives to keep their jobs, serve themselves, and that now, makes laws for all of us though, we did not vote them into office. The government is the largest employer in the country, today’s Armed Forces by comparison are around 1.38 million. Common law is now enacted by about 150 offices in the administration, people we have NEVER voted for, violating our Constitutional rights of fair representation. This is what gives your congressman the time to scheme for their next money scoop, from the few they really serve.

Who is going to right this ship now? We don’t have a Madison or a Hamilton in our midst.

How are we supposed to right this ship now? The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution no longer rule, Congress operates as it sees fit and both parties ignore the law that rules them.

They enjoy barking orders (the Bills they pass) and then let the unconstitutional 4th branch of government do the rest of the work by, “regulating” us.

Update, we lost the battle. Congress approve raising the ceiling of our debt (meaning, the Democrats and Republicans “negotiate a sweet deal for both), and proceeded to approve the new budget. This we can barely pay the interest rate.

P.S.: The current Executive branch is weak in more ways than one. See this interview between the French press and John Kerry (the US “Special Presidential Envoy for Climate.” Why Kerry? Because, as of October 2021, we do not have an Ambassador to France yet). I don’t follow the news but France recalled their Ambassador and they are one of our strong allies, next to England and Germany. How does the President not know he had a crisis here???? Proof positive we have a weak Executive. We (the people) voted for this Executive, are we that feeble? Or, instead, we really want to be run by a politburo.
