The Goal Should Be to Get to 1k Articles, Don’t Focus on The Number
Create your online library.
It happens every time.
You want to become a successful online writer. So, you start a blog, try to post consistently, have no experience with SEO, then quit altogether.
Then, you find a writing platform where you can make money, try to be consistent again, you don’t get followers right away, then quit again.
This sure was me three years ago.
Most writers quit within a few months of starting because they’re so hung up on followers and engagement.
Let me give you a quick mindset shift:
Don’t focus on the engagement, focus on the number of posts you should reach.
Consistency isn’t just about writing six articles for a week. You don’t get to cheat the system.
It’s about practicing for years on end.
The best writing practice you could ever do is post in public. You get direct feedback so you can tweak your writing.
So when I tried to write online again for the second time, after quitting the first time, I set one goal:
Write 1k articles.
Why? It seemed like all of the successful writers I’ve studied had archives upon archives of articles on their profiles. Heck, your fingers would get tired from scrolling so long down to their first article.
I put my head down and wrote until the cows came home for a year straight.
Setting that goal of 1k articles helped me block out the ego trip of likes, comments, and followers. Currently, I have about 850 articles on this platform. I plan to fulfill that goal this year.
One of my favorite writers, Nicolas Cole, once said that his ultimate goal is to build an online library of his writing. There will be so much of his writing everywhere that people can’t get away from reading it.
That’s my goal too.
I don’t want to be remembered for a trendy article headline. I want to be remembered for fulfilling others and improving my writing through practice and hard work.
What is your ultimate writing goal?
No matter what it is, focus on getting to 1k.
The rest will sort itself out.
Ready? Set? Go.
