The Girl Who Cried ‘WOLF’

Lies weigh a ton, and for little me, it became quite a hefty load to carry

Have you ever heard the story about the shepherd’s boy who kept yelling ‘WOLF’ lying to the people of his village into believing the town’s flock was attacked?

One of the oldest tales ever told and a brilliant example of why one should not lie…

If only little me would have understood and taken a heart to this story sooner…

(sigh)

Piling Lies On Lies

The result of reading too many mystery books, and watching too many movies is what shaped her imagination to the peak! And rather than storing it all up inside, little me figured it was way more fun to share with everyone, and noticing how much more she captured her audience’s interest when the story was ‘claimed’ to be true was the fuel of invention.

She didn’t mean any harm I’m sure. She just wanted to be interesting and entertaining, and watching all those astonishing faces every time she told a dramatic story was like a sweet sugary snack she kept wanting more of. And so she continued telling lies on lies piling them up high building quite a name for herself.

Why was it that little me had her family and everyone else so fooled? Maybe it was this believable face that was so convincing?

Of course, she could only keep this charade going for so long and soon was exposed to her many lies just like the shepherd’s boy was. People stopped believing her, everything she said was a joke, nothing was serious anymore, and who was to blame for this but herself??

Lies weigh a ton, and sooner or later probably when least expected, the wolf will come for his prey to hold one accountable for the many lies told.

Like he came for the shepherd’s boy he also came for little me…

Fighting Off The Wolf

It must have been the many lies that pulled her deeper and deeper under the surface of the crashing waves that day. It must have been her conscious screaming for vengeance! Little me had never been afraid of the water, she had learned how to swim from a very young age, yet on this very day the water scared her. It seemed darker than ever, more threatening, like a big black hole it started sucking her in. She didn’t even get the chance to cry for help. The struggle of trying to stay above water took all her energy, and the amount of seawater she swallowed every time she did open her mouth, filled her lungs fast and threatened to choke her.

I know the story of the shepherd's boy ended with him losing all of his town’s flock to the wolf, but for little me, the ending wasn’t quite as tragic.

If it weren’t for a complete stranger who came to the rescue that day she would have lost the battle against the wolf just like the shepherd’s boy did. Was it coincident that the stranger just so happened to be there in the right place at the right time? I think not.

After her own battle with the wolf, little me had finally learned her lesson. Lies are a heavy load to carry and will weigh you down sooner or later. One will be held accountable for them and no matter how sweet and sugary they seem, they are not worth the consequences that come after.

And so she promised herself to never EVER tell another lie again for as long as she lived.
