Abstract

The narrative titled "The Girl In The Picture Was Sleeping" is a piece of micro-fiction that tells the story of Sarah, who is drawn into a surreal and unsettling encounter with her own image. As she gazes at a photograph on her phone, she hears laughter from the girl in the picture, who claims to share her name. Opinions

  • The story plays with the concept of identity and the uncanny, suggesting that our perceptions of self can be as fluid and uncertain as the images we capture.
  • There is an underlying theme of technology's influence on our sense of reality, as the protagonist's interaction with a digital image leads to her entrapment.
  • The narrative evokes a sense of eeriness and the supernatural, implying that photographs might hold more than just memories or moments, but could be gateways to alternate realities or existences.
  • The author may be exploring the idea that our digital selves can take on a life of their own, independent of our physical beings.
  • The story could be a metaphor for the way people can lose themselves in online personas or virtual worlds, becoming trapped by the identities they project.

Her phone was about to fall from her hand. Her mind was trying to make sense of the photograph.

Suddenly she heard a baleful laughing noise. The girl in the picture was laughing at her.

Sarah got choked. It took her a couple of mins to gather the courage to speak, “Who are you?”

“I am Sarah” The girl in the picture replied.

“No. I am Sarah” Sarah managed to say it out loud.

“Really?” The girl asked. In the next moment, Sarah found herself in the place of the girl, in the picture, and the girl had come out.

Sarah was locked in the picture of her house, forever.
