Summary

A girl who cherishes her doll as her sole companion finds her world turned upside down when the doll comes to life and begins to assert her own desires and opinions, mirroring the girl's own struggles with autonomy and being heard.

Abstract

In "The girl and the doll," a tale that feels almost real, we encounter a young girl who finds solace and joy in her doll, treating it as a cherished friend and confidant. With no siblings, the doll serves as her entire world, and she revels in the fantasy of their shared domestic life, complete with elaborate games and imaginary parties. The narrative takes a magical turn when the doll gains life, allowing the girl to experience the joy of having a real friend who can communicate and share experiences with her. However, this new dynamic brings unexpected challenges as the doll begins to express her own needs and preferences, insisting on autonomy in choosing her attire, bedtime, and the nature of their games. The girl, reflecting on her own relationship with her mother, recognizes the importance of being heard and respected, and she acknowledges the doll's right to have her wishes considered. This poignant story subtly touches on themes of independence, mutual respect, and the complexities of growing up.

Opinions

  • The girl initially views the doll as an extension of herself, dictating all aspects of the doll's "life" without considering the doll's desires.
  • The doll's transformation from an inanimate object to a sentient being with her own agency challenges the girl's perception of their relationship.
  • The doll's assertion of her own opinions and wishes reflects a desire for equality and respect within their friendship.
  • The girl's reaction to the doll's newfound autonomy suggests a parallel with her own experiences with her mother, highlighting a child's need to be listened to and taken seriously.
  • The story implies that mutual respect and the ability to listen and adapt are crucial for any relationship, whether between a child and a doll or a child and a parent.

the girl had a doll she loved playing with her she had no siblings the doll was everything for her

she used to dress her up and sing her to sleep she also had a house just for her with all the rooms and a kitchen where they would cook up all the fantasies would invite other guests and party all day like crazies

one day the doll came to life she could breathe and speak the girl was delighted as she had a real friend now they could share things and talk about everything

it’s been a few days the games had been more fun but then that day the doll said to her i like you and i love playing with you but we have to get a few things straight the rules of the games need to change

from now on i will choose my own dress and i will decide the time to go to bed i will also have a say in the games we play

i am happy to listen to you and eager to learn from you but my wishes and my opinions should also matter to you

the girl smiled back lovingly and said looking her in the eye i keep telling the same things to my mom she doesn’t listen then why should i
