The Gift of Another Chance
Fifty years have taught me this one thing That life offers second chances still No matter the mistakes that we may bring There’s always time our hopes to fulfill
The tides of life ebb and then flow We lose our way, then find it once more The winds of time come and they go New doors open, closed ones restore
Another chance, this precious gift To learn from errors, start anew With hard-won wisdom we can sift And see our dreams finally come true
Until our final beating heart While breath still fills our grateful lungs The promise of a fresh new start Remains, no matter how often we’ve stung
So we must never cease to try And never stop believing we could With open eyes and spirit high Greet each new chance, as best we should
The losing and finding never ends The forgetting and remembering too Until we meet our final amends There’s always another chance imbued
So long as we’re alive, there’s hope No matter how many dreams may shatter Keep holding on, and learning to cope Till the very last light starts to scatter
For in life’s tapestry, filled with breaks There are always fresh threads to be found New stories to tell, new daybreaks While we tread on this turning ground
