Summary

Ellie Jacobson shares a personal experience of a walk at Whitetail Regional Park, capturing a ghostly image of the sky that inspired a six-word photo story for Mary Chang's October writing challenge.

Abstract

Ellie Jacobson and her husband took a walk around Whitetail Regional Park's lake on a Saturday afternoon, deciding to go a day earlier due to a rain forecast for their originally planned Sunday morning outing. Despite her husband's sore ankle, they enjoyed a slower-paced walk, during which Ellie took photos of the darkening sky. One particular photo strikingly resembled ghosts emerging from the clouds, which she noticed only after returning home. Although no rain was predicted, the ominous sky prompted Ellie to consider bringing an umbrella in the future. The eerie photo inspired her entry for Mary Chang Story Writer's October prompt, "Scared Out of My Wits," and she expressed gratitude for the inspiration. Ellie also tagged other six-word photo story writers, inviting a sense of community among fellow writers participating in the challenge.

The Ghostly Sky

October Six Word Photo Story Challenge: Scary

Boo! You didn’t bring an umbrella!

Saturday afternoon, my husband and I headed over to Whitetail Regional Park for a walk around the lake. Originally we planned to go Sunday morning but rain was forecasted so we bumped it up.

The walk around the lake is about two miles. My husband’s ankle had been bothering him, so we took it slower than normal.

About halfway around the lake, the sky started getting darker. As we went around a corner of the lake, I took a bunch of photos of the darkening sky but kept on walking.

I had checked the forecast beforehand. No rain was predicted. For a few minutes, I was a little worried as the sky was getting darker and more ominous, but thankfully the rain stayed away.

Later when I was looking through the photos, I noticed this one looked like ghosts coming up through the clouds.

Next time, I’ll remember to put an umbrella in my backpack.
