The Gardyn System

Three Month Review. Is it Still Worth the Money?

Photos by Rowen Quinn

Well, here we are, three months after my Gardyn purchase.

Is it still worth the 800.00 that I paid for this beautiful indoor unit?

The answer is absolutely 100% yes. In fact, I am trying to convince my husband to buy another.

Why is this expensive unit worth the money?

Technically, by the numbers, it hasn’t paid for its self quite yet. However, the change that it has brought into my household has been amazing. And potentially life changing, since everyone is eating much healthier.

After about three weeks, my family of four could have salad, every night, with dinner.

I have at least five types of lettuce, plus spinach, kale, and a variety of other greens, herbs and salad “fixins”.

The above photo is three months of growth with daily harvesting.

My twins, who previously hated anything green or vegetable-like, both love to go pick what they want in their salads. They actually enjoyed tasting the different varieties of lettuce. And choosing their favorite. Which I make sure is constantly growing for them. My son loves to mix a variety of greens for his salad, but his twin is a red lettuce/spinach kind of girl.

My family is noticeably more inclined to add lettuce or greens to their sandwiches, tacos, and other foods, now that it is constantly fresh and available.

I have saved considerable amounts of money as well. I no longer need to buy spices and herbs from the grocer, because I have them growing fresh in my Gardyn. Spices are ridiculously expensive in my area (or maybe they are just expensive).

No more bags, or heads of lettuce, left to rot in the refrigerator. Because we only cut what we need and the rest continues to thrive and grow.

My husband has also increased his salad consumption since we got our unit. Which is great since we are getting to that age, you know, the age where you really start to ponder actually taking better care of your body so it doesn’t fall apart.

So maybe it hasn’t paid for its self financially….yet.

But it has brought on vast positive changes in my household that make it completely worth the money spent. Changes that will improve our health.

It has helped me teach my kids to be just a bit more self sufficient, by learning to grow, and preserve their own foods. It also gets them excited about eating veggies.

In a few months, I plan on using my Gardyn unit to start my spring flowers and vegetable starts for my outdoor garden and my front yard.

That alone will save me hundreds of dollars.

By spring it will have financially paid for itself with the money that I have saved on buying produce/herbs, vegetable starts, and flowers for my yard.

So if you love growing your own food, have a short growing season, or even if you just love to grow… anything. This unit is for you.
