The Gap Between Expectation and Reality

a poem and a challenge

Photo by Tim Davies on Unsplash

I find that sometimes there’s a gap between “this is what’s supposed to feel good”

and

“this is what currently feels good”

with expectations framing current experiences, sometimes in a genuine way, yet others imposing an expectation that feels yet worse if it no longer actually creates this experience.

Hi I’m Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她) and I wrote this thinking about a tangible example but realized there was a whole meme format with this, with the “expectation” vs. “reality” baking examples where cute cookie recipes are tested and turn out to be grotesque bleeding screaming gingerbread people. It’s something like that, I suppose. 📚📚 PS, I published a book of tiny poems!

Hop down the rabbit hole? 🐰🕳
