If you have ever thought about volunteering in a secondhand shop then this is the article for you. I worked in a thrift shop for my work placement and had it was a great experience. So why is it worth it?

First and foremost, you get first dibs on merchandise from the backroom. When I wasn't at the till I was in the backroom tagging and pricing items, going through bags can be either horrifying or surprising. You can pull out something that you take a liking to and of course pay for it.

My next point is probably one of my favorites, turn your house into the palace you always dreamed of for a fraction of the cost. So many furnishings I have for my house have been purchased secondhand and upholstered to look the way I want them. There is something gratifying about getting something with great potential for cheap and displaying it in your humble abode.

Next up, the people, you meet so many different characters whether they are your fellow employees or customers. I always found interesting personalities coming into the shop. It was amazing getting to know these people with stories to tell.

The last aspect I want to mention is the calming atmosphere, having tea and chats with your workmates while trying to work out what it as a good fitting price for this mysterious object you can't put a name on. Working on events for the charity with good people and the opportunity to be part of something exciting, while I worked in a thrift store, we all took part in a fashion show, garnering all the nicest pieces and modeling them down our DIY catwalk.
