The First Philosopher Who Studied Happiness
Philosophers have always prompted us to ask deep questions about life rather than merely existing in the world, like:
“What is the meaning of life?”
“What matters most in life?”
“Why do we live and die?”
And many more questions like that.
In ancient Greek, people used to think that materialistic things are the most important thing in life.
However, one philosopher disagreed with this view and said that:
“Happiness is the most important ingredient in life”
His name was Epicurus.
He argued that humans should pursue happiness to live a long and fulfilling life.
He not only put forward this theory but also carried out some experiments to prove his theory. He said that there are 3 important things for a happy life:
- We should see our friends regularly. For this, Epicurus bought a big house and started living with his friends.
- We need to find the work where we feel we are contributing to society.
- We don’t need most materialistic things.
Sadly, most people fail to realize this. They pursue wrong things in life (fame, money, lust) to impress people they don’t even like.
I totally agree with Epicurus as well. Happiness is the most important of life. If you are happy in your life, it does not matter what you are doing and where you are.
If you are not feeling happy, you need to ask some serious questions about your life. You need to make changes in life to be happy.
You can disagree with me, but happiness is above everything else.
