the Amazon rages and burns as the world watches

speechless in shock at the destruction

the earth responds with more fires

because the earth feels and reacts

if one jungle burns another burns elsewhere in solidarity

the earth is not angry but she is in pain

will we answer her call?

Note: I lived in the Amazon jungle in Peru for the past two and a half years.

Living in the jungle and learning from the indigenous people who call the Amazon home were essential to my healing of a disease that I was told was incurable.

I share this poem in honor and respect of the Amazon jungle, and the indigenous people who live there.
