The Feast II
A 500 words microfiction, second part: Beyond the veil
It had been a year since Vally disappeared. Marley was now having dreams, giving the impression of disturbing reality. It started three months later. She emerged from the radiant haze, she said nothing but her eyes spoke. When she woke up, Marley was crying quietly so as not to wake Dylan who was sleeping next to her.
The day it happened, they had walked into the woods with the guests. The next day, the authorities had extended the search with the help of the inhabitants of the neighboring villages. But there was no sign of Vally. In the end, they found themselves alone. They had only kept Mrs. Noguera as their steward. They didn’t go out anymore. Only Mrs. Noguera used to go to the village to bring them provisions.
Today was the first anniversary, It was the same day, the park was deserted but the rising sun promised a bright sunny day. Marley needed to be alone. She went for a walk into the park under the old trees. Familiar blackbirds were looking for caterpillars, worms or seeds. She still felt a certain emptiness, but the joy was rising inside her as if a wild hope was emerging from nowhere.
She remembered that one day, as she was six, Vally had gone all the way to the village without telling anyone and that they had to go and get her. Immersed in her memories, she forgot everything and soon found herself on the edge of the estate. Turning around, she thought she saw her daughter in the shade under the trees. This troubled her and she thought about it on her way home..
When she came in, she saw Madame Noguera in the kitchen having breakfast and getting up to make room for her. - No, leave it, it’s okay. Did you have a good night? - That’s what I wanted to talk to you about. I had a disturbing dream last night. Marley froze. - Ma’am, Vally came to me in a dream. She told me she was okay, that she wasn’t dead. She is in the future and can’t come back to the present. She ask you and your husband to feel joy so she could reach you. She asked me to tell this to you. Marley had to sit on a chair. She remained silent then rose up her eyes full of tear as she clung to the table, smiling. They hugged each other, keeping silent.
When they separated, Dylan was standing on the threshold of the room with tears in his eyes, he understood the intensity of the moment and the three hugged each other.
Vally was now able to project her consciousness onto the Earth, but still couldn’t reach her grief-stricken parents. This passage had been prepared before she was born. She knew that the entire planet would change frequency with many living beings, helped by Beings of Light. It would be a painful and exhilarating birth. She knew that this separation was temporary and that she would be reunited with her parents.
