The Fathers That Failed Me

Author without authority

That’s actually my own wall, credits to the marker.

This is a very interesting subject, a lot of people have no idea how much authority changes things and respect towards work or projects, especially if it’s authority without wisdom.

“Authority without wisdom is like a heavy ax without an edge, fitter to bruise than polish.” — Anne Bradstreet.

I must admit all my life I have denied authority, but let’s get this straight, not by the lack of integrity, but by not accepting anything that would go against my principles.

Let’s imagine a child, how does authority work on a child?

If he is obedient, does that automatically mean your authority worked?

But then again, ask yourself this, do you want an obedient child? Does it satisfy you when you say “Stay right there!” or “Don’t do that”, and the child automatically obeys. But is that what we want for our children in their life?

This may be pretty controversial, I do not mean children should be dis-respectful, but authority just for your own comfort is not good for your child.

I never had a real father, yet I did have about 5–6 stepfathers, now trust me when I tell you, every one of them tried his authority on me and I went against every one of them.

They were trying to make me call them father by authority, first of all, why would you want me to call you “father” by being a hypocrite.

Why would you try to make me do your own things and cook for you as you’re laying in bed like a piece of shit with authority? Of course, I went against that as well.

Why would you demand respect when you’re not offering, where is the power of example?

I went against that too, and I was very, very, dis-respectful when needed.

One of them even got violent due to the fact that I was NOT obeying his shit!

Nobody ever tried to get to me genuinely, none of them knew my favorite food or hobbies, none of them tried to be a father before demanding the word “father”.

The lack of positive authority got to me even today, the anxiety I have feeds my laziness and I don’t even listen to my own authority, but do I have one?

Perhaps I am wrong and perhaps I mistake genuinely needed authority with the one I had in my childhood. I might be broken and now I go against all the authorities, even the ones that have good intentions.

Authority and responsibility go together, or else, they won’t be healthy.

Just like this piece of article that was supposed to be much longer, yet, I lack inspiration today, I hope this fits the prompt.

Hugs to the readers, don’t be too hard on yourself with authority!
