The Fate Of Humankind In The Hands Of LEGO, Again

A quick review of LEGO’s 2023 Brickheadz WALL-E and EVE

Suppose you’re told the end of the world is about to happen, and you have but one hour left to enjoy life? What do you do? I’m certain if we were to really answer that question, we’d have very interesting, and perhaps even touching comments popping up at the end of this article. But, as far as we know, the end of the world isn’t about to happen, so we can add to that list something fun like building a LEGO set.

That slightly ominous introduction didn’t come out of nowhere as you can imagine, but was inspired by the set I’m about to review, the Brickheadz EVE & WALL-E, set #40619, brand new for 2023. Coming in at 15 bucks for a total of 155 pieces, it isn’t what you’d call particularly good value, but regardless of the somewhat low piece-count, it still manages to deliver not one but two Brickheadz, EVE and WALL-E.

Now, these Disney (Pixar) characters are not new. We’ve known them for a good few years and LEGO itself already had an attempt at WALL-E, a much larger one. I must say, while I never owned that, this iteration almost feels a bit more appropriate. Sure, this is a small set, and the beloved animation characters even smaller, but that’s where I think the charm comes from. It’s yet another example of just how well you can represent anything in LEGO regardless of scale, as both characters are instantly recognisable.

Thankfully, this set comes with no stickers, the yellow WALL-E branded brick is actually printed, so great news for printed bricks fans. EVE might look a tad simplistic in design, and I admit, I would have liked it to be a tad more elongated towards the bottom, but with the limited pieces, it’s still a decent replica of the original character.

As we all know, Brickheadz are mostly for display, so play value there isn’t much, but it’s worth noting that WALL-E’s head does allow for some articulation. Perhaps a missed opportunity with EVE is not using glow-in-the dark bricks. I think, it would have looked amazing if all of EVE had lit up in the dark. Both characters come with stands, and the way this is solved is by using clear plates and bricks, to give somewhat of a hover effect — for EVE that is.

In terms of build complexity, this set is very straightforward, and while it’s recommended as a 10+ set, even a 6-year-old would have no trouble building it. In general, it should not take more than 40 minutes of total build time.

Whether you should buy this set or not, is entirely dependent on whether you are a WALL-E fan or not. While a cheap enough set, it’s not exactly good value for money. For a couple more bucks, you can get a tall pick-a-brick cup worth of LEGO that’s going to offer a lot more play value. Having said that, if the two Pixar characters are something you remember fondly, you’ll probably want this set. In fact, in many countries the online LEGO stores already seem to have sold out, so you might have to try later, or go to a physical LEGO shop, perhaps they have some in stock.

EVE & WALL-E is likely going to end up being the best Brickheadz set of 2023. Fun, cute and made of bricks!
