Visual Thinking of unconscious bias in the workplace
I’m going to invite you to do a nano-thinking exercise here.
Think of a nurse.
❓ What gender did you imagine?
❓Why?
Now think of a CEO.
❓ What gender did you think this time?
❓ Why?
It’s because we do not see things as they are, we see things as we are. The world we have created around us is a process of our thinking. Our environment shapes our thoughts and experiences. It’s time we break the bias and bring more awareness to our actions. Breaking bias needs more diverse opinions on the executive table and creating an environment where everyone thrives and belongs.
Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced. — James Baldwin

Now see the image I’ve illustrated above and tell me, Which piece fits the puzzle 🧩 better? Piece A or Piece B?
Why?
Think twice before you scroll once.
Answer. Both fit in, the difference only lies in the colour.
On an extremely basic level, we all are judged by our appearances more than anything else. Unfortunately, society favours a poor heart under a rich coat more than a rich heart under a poor coat. Nevertheless, there are people in the society who are trying to make way for inclusion and make everyone feel valued. They’re the ones making change happen and shifting the mindset in people and culture to create a fair society.
It’s time to pause and reflect. Here’s some food for thought for thinkers and journal prompt for writers,
💭 What does bias mean to you?
💭 What steps are you taking to create an equitable workplace?
💭 Where do your biases come from?
💭 What was the recent decision you made that was affected by unconscious bias?
💬 share your thoughts in the comments.
