The Essence of Christmas
To me, Christmas has its own distinct taste. Actually, I’m not sure if it’s a taste or an emotion; perhaps both. Really, how different are the two anyways?
Christmas tastes like cocoa that’s frothy and warm going down; like sweet whipped cream mustaches beneath your nose.
Like nose-tingling peppermint candy canes, licked to a point.
Like hot mashed potatoes and gravy.
Taste isn’t quite enough to describe it.
Christmas smells like fir candles flickering on the kitchen table.
Christmas sounds like warbled Christmas carols playing on the small, ancient merry-go-round that sits atop our piano, like laughter.
It feels like the warm fuzz that spreads from my heart out over my limbs at the sight of strings of white Christmas lights draped over the trees.
What describes Christmas for you?
