Summary

The poem "The Enlightened Traveler" reflects on a woman's journey of self-discovery and enlightenment, as she breaks away from serving others to embrace her own truth and awareness.

Abstract

"The Enlightened Traveler" is a contemplative poem that narrates the transformative journey of a woman who awakens to a newfound self-awareness. Initially, she walks a path dictated by others, but as she stumbles and rises, she begins to see beyond the fog of life's illusions. Through her awakening, she challenges her own beliefs and those of her parents, realizing the falsities of her past wisdom. She opened her eyes, following the road. A path through a fog she was living as told. Her first steps offered her a glimpse to herself. Alone, in a forest, surrounded by tall naked trees. Her purpose to service others selfish with needs.

She opened her eyes, following the road. A path through life’s fog that she wanted to know. The second she stumbled, falling to her knees. Is the moment she saw her forest for the trees, knowing her flower could spread forth like a weed.

She opened her eyes, following the road. Her path through seduction hid truth in the fog. For the third time she spoke, finding her tongue. She made her parents cry like children when they’re told their wrong. Aware of her false wisdom’s blasphemies of youth.

She opened her eyes to follow the truth. Her path halted by fog surrounding the trail. There was no point moving forward, traveling the road of blame and betrayal. She had opened her eyes. The world wasn’t the same.

She sits alone in the forest. Her knees pulled to her chest, feeling no shame. Waiting for her answers to vanish, they don’t. Wanting insight to rest, it won’t.

She had opened her eyes while following the road. She asked herself questions, receiving answers untold. She sits on our path waiting to speak. Hoping you’ll find her when it’s the truth you now seek.
