When the year 2023 dawns, it will be the beginning of the end for Photoshop. The photography business is booming and there is no sign of it slowing down. However, the most important tools of photography will change.

Can Photoshop be used for AI art?
DALLE 2 not only creates new pictures from scratch in response to text description prompts (“Text to Image”), but it can also edit preexisting images in response to such descriptions (“Inpainting”). It may also be given an example picture and instructed to come up with an original spin on it (“Variations”).
Rapid AI art Creation using Text-Based Methods
Adobe is trying to catch up with the train of AI generators. Unfortunately, the train has left in a different direction than Photoshop researchers are running. A quick styling method like the one described in this paper [1] is not what will save Adobe from going out of business. Fortunately for Adobe and for artists, AI plugins are being developed to keep this great tool like Photoshop alive. You can read about it HERE.
200 million AI artists in 1 month
There are more threats. New players are emerging with simple web interfaces and millions of subscribers. A million new paying artists joined DALLE 2 in the last month. Stability AI said today that, with to the investor’s support, the company might have as many as 200 million paying customers.
Adobe has 26 million subscribers to Adobe Creative Cloud (2021). It has taken over 30 years. The new AI generators are capable of reaching that number of users by the end of the year. However, this is just the beginning.
