Summary

Admiral Wendell Pierce discovers the edge of a flat world, leading to a dramatic revelation and a tense confrontation with his first mate.

Abstract

In "The Edge of Discovery," Admiral Wendell Pierce stands at the precipice of a great chasm, realizing that the world is flat as he gazes upon the cosmos below. This revelation, made from an outcropping near his ship, the HMS Chelsea, contradicts conventional knowledge and excites Pierce, who believes he has made a monumental discovery. However, his first mate, Bodkins, views this discovery as dangerous, fearing the implications of such a revelation, and contemplates the necessity of silencing Pierce to protect the established understanding of the world. The narrative invites readers to engage with the concept by writing their own drabbles and tagging the author, and it concludes with a call to action for readers to support the author through claps, comments, follows, and donations.

Admiral Wendell Pierce stood rigid against the driving winds and peered over the edge into the great chasm.

“Well…I’ll be buggered.”

They were on an outcropping of land jutting from the great, foaming seas. Pierce’s ship, The HMS Chelsea, was anchored not far from them.

Spread out below was the whole of space, the stars shining against the black void.

“What do you think it means, sir?” his first mate Bodkins asked.

“It means I was right,” Pierce crowed. “The world is flat!”

“I’m sorry to hear you say that,” Bodkins replied, pulling out his pistol.

“No one can know.”
