The Dog in the Mirror Is Closer Than He Appears
Photos of a dog looking out his window and enjoying life
The world rushes past, with new sights and smells at every turn. People smile and wave. Some of them roll their windows down and say, “Hi, cutie!”
They’re not talking to me. They’re talking to the dog.
Charlie loves sitting in the back seat with his head out the window. The wind hits his face and plays with his ears until it looks like he’s flying.

The dogs love their Adventure Rides. All we have to do is say the words: “Do you want to go for a drive in the truck?” Both of our dogs immediately know what means. They get to go for a ride with the windows down.
We roll their windows down, no matter how cold it is. They don’t care that their humans aren’t covered with a warm fur coat. They love the fresh air.
We shiver and turn the heater up while the dogs hang their heads out the window. If their noses get cold, they come in to warm up. Then it’s right back out the window. They might miss something!

Charlie sits behind me, and Sunny sits behind my husband. They sit in the same place, every time. Even if they hop into the truck out of order, they always make it back into their seats.
Since Charlie’s always behind me, he’s the only one I can photograph in the side-view mirror.

Since I can’t easily get a picture of Sunny through the mirror, I took a picture through her back window to show the view from her side of the truck.
She’s shorter than Charlie, so if she’s sitting, she has to lean her head up against the door to look outside. She usually stands or sits up straight, looking out the windshield.

We’re not out after dark very often, but when we are, we’ll usually take the dogs out for another drive. They won’t complain!
