“Al, you can win this race! You’re an astronaut with great name recognition, people admire you, and you’re great on television. Don’t you want to serve in Congress?”
“Yes, Bob, I think I could do a good job in Congress. But Eddie Watson, the incumbent, isn’t doing a bad job.”
“That’s not the point!” Bob Wilson retorted with exasperation. “We’ve got enough dirt on Watson that you’re sure to beat him.”
“That’s exactly the point,” Al replied wearily. “Watson doesn’t deserve that, and as a person of character, I won’t do it!”
Wilson slammed the door on his way out.
