We were found by not Christians wanting a more Christian state, but by exiles expelled from overly religious anti scientific authoritarian nation-states with church-states. That combination of state and church corrupts both the state and the religious practices. Example being the Catholic Church during the middle ages and how the Pope was once the richest man on the planet.
