The Desert: I
I met the nomad on a hot desert day He spoke with a toothy grin And a mischievous gleam in his eye Bandwidth kept a curved knife at his belt And boots buckled shin-high His cloak blew in the wind Heat rose in shimmering waves… The dunes morphed In the wind that followed like ghosts In the silence That separated empty space From the expanse of time Tell me child, he said What do you fear -He gazed toward the glimmering horizon And looked me in the eye The desert will reveal these things to you It, like an old friend will listen to your words But ruthless in its ways will never cater to your desires Here, time is void You will find everything And nothing It is a mirror That reflects what is Be patient, he said And listen for it has much to teach you.
— From the Mysteries of Undiscovered Magic by the Al’Maudra
This piece is a poem from a book I am currently working on called the “Mysteries of Undiscovered Magic;” a mystical and dark compilation of excerpts and poems that takes the reader on a spiritual journey and provides a well of knowledge through the allure of nature and the transcendent soul.
