The Democrats Are Stuck with Their Frail President

The Democratic Party is facing an absolute nightmare scenario heading into the 2024 presidential election. They are well and truly stuck with Joe Biden, their elderly, frail and mentally declining nominee who is clearly not fit to serve another term as president.

Biden’s frequent memory lapses, meandering incoherence when speaking without a teleprompter, and general confusion about basic facts have led to growing bipartisan concerns about his cognitive fitness. Polls show an overwhelming majority of voters see Biden as too old and unfit for the rigors of the presidency. Yet despite the clear writing on the wall, Biden stubbornly clings to power.

Rather than gracefully acknowledge that his best years are behind him and retire, Biden angrily lashes out at anyone daring to question his competence. He lives in a fantasy world where his presidency has been an amazing success, when in reality his term has been defined by crises like high inflation, unchecked illegal immigration, rising crime, a looming recession, and botched foreign policy debacles like the humiliating Afghanistan withdrawal.

Biden maintains the delusion that catastrophes like the Afghanistan rout were brilliant triumphs. He nonsensically blames the massive migrant surge at the southern border on Trump, when it is directly caused by his own misguided policies reversing Trump-era controls. Biden insists his economic policies are brilliant and blames Powell for inflation, when printing trillions fueled rising prices.

The feeble Biden is clearly overwhelmed by the demands of the presidency at this advanced stage of cognitive decline. He can barely get through scripted speeches without confusing basic facts. When speaking off the cuff, Biden’s memory loss and disorientation are even more apparent. He has even confused the leaders of Egypt and Mexico!

Yet Biden refuses to acknowledge the obvious — that he is no longer up to the intense rigors of campaigning for and serving another four year term. He could gracefully bow out, but his massive ego will never allow that. Seeking to sideline him via the 25th Amendment is also unrealistic, as it would make Kamala Harris president, and she is even more unpopular than Biden.

So the Democrats are well and truly stuck with Biden, an elderly, enfeebled candidate who is leading their party over a cliff towards electoral disaster in 2024. Biden is in no shape to withstand the pressures of the campaign trail or the Oval Office. But he delusionally plows ahead as if all is well.

What can the Democrats do? Pray for a miracle? Unfortunately for them, Biden is hellbent on running again no matter how obvious his unfitness becomes. He is simply not lucid enough to comprehend the severity of his mental decline. The many crises America faces demand a president at the top of his game cognitively. But tragically for the Democrats, they are stuck with Biden as their standard bearer — an increasingly feeble and frail man unable to deal with the complex threats facing America today.

The Democrats face an impossible predicament. Their presidential options are an elderly man slipping into senility, or Kamala Harris, who might even be less competent than Biden. The Party must find a way to replace Biden with a stronger nominee or else face utter disaster in 2024. But Biden’s ego will make that extremely difficult. For better or worse, the Democrats are well and truly stuck with their frail, flailing president. What an absolute mess!
