The Democratic Party Will Win Both the House and Senate in 2022

Say thank you to Donald Trump and a party that can’t get out of its own way for bringing this about.

It’s election time again. Hold onto your horses, we’re in for a rough ride. Photo by Element5 Digital on Unsplash.

I am a white, conservative male who doesn’t vote party but votes for the candidates that most align with my values.

Sadly, this is getting continually much more difficult. The reason is that extremists win primaries in both parties.

The moderate politicians who can work across the aisle to write and legislate for the majority of Americans no longer exist.

Talk about extinct animals!

Moderates have been hunted down and eliminated with enthusiasm.

In 2022, the Republican Party as a whole is doing the most to destroy any semblance of balance in politics.

The combination of an increasingly unhinged Donald Trump and candidates with nothing good to say will ensure America is about to get the biggest dose of political theatre it has ever seen.

The Democrats will increase their majority in the House and stand a very good chance of getting close enough to 60 Senate seats that the filibuster will go down in the first vote of 2023.

This shouldn’t be a celebration of the Democratic Party as much as a funeral for the Republican Party.

Democrats aren’t playing a winning game. They don’t have to.

Democrats simply have to sit back and watch the Trump led Republicans implode.

Where Democrats Will Pick Up Seats in the House

I believe the Democratic Party is going to win a lot of the seats 270towin.com lists as competitive. The reasons are varied, but the biggest reason is that the Republican Party is just not aggressive enough.

That means there are going to be a lot more Progressive Democrats in the House of Representatives, which may mean that Nancy Pelosi is finally forced to resign as Speaker of the House.

This may turn out really bad for the country.

You can see my choices for the most competitive seats up for election this cycle in this link.

Contrary to popular belief, I don’t think abortion is going to be the primary reason for the Democratic Party retaining House leadership.

The primary reason is that the Republican Party has no standard on which to run.

Everything they just released in their Commitment to America sounds good.

None of it will ever see anything with the exception of ad soundbites up until Election Day.

The Republican Party has simply waited too long to come up with anything other than Make America Great Again or Let’s Go Brandon.

Where are the moderates in the House of Representatives?

Great question, but moderates no longer exist. Like dinosaurs and coal for electricity, moderate politicians are from a bygone era.

Today, extremism on both sides of the aisle lines the pockets of men and women who have huge, unaccountable staffs that generate Twitter slogans, but rarely ever do the hard work of legislating.

The Direction of American Elections in the Future

I don’t believe that democracy is what is at peril in these elections. What is at peril is elections as a whole.

A February 2021 article on the website, fivethirtyeight.com outlines what the 2020 election looked like and I believe the direction of voting in America will continually look like.

Voting by mail and absentee ballot is only going to increase.

I can’t say I’m a huge fan of this direction, simply because a ballot filled out while watching your favorite TV program while scrolling through social media at the same time will never carry the same thought process as voting in person.

In the future, I can envision a voting app coming out and I believe there will be even more problems with a system that doesn’t require people to get out of their easy chair, show an ID and cast a vote in person.

I don’t have a lot of faith in the future of American elections. It seems that people do not vote for the best candidate any longer. Now, it is a popularity contest and a “who’s going to give me the most?” contest.

The political divide we see now is only going to worsen and candidates with high character will no longer run for office, leaving us the sorry excuse for candidates that America has right now.

If we could somehow encourage candidates who are willing to serve the American people to run for office again, then maybe we wouldn’t have the halls of Congress, Senate and the White House filled with so many people who are just out to get whatever they can for themselves.
